Enquire About Piano Lessons

I am a friendly and patient piano teacher based in Botley, Oxford. I teach in 3 different schools throughout Oxford city, as well as teaching many private pupils either at their own home or at mine. Adults and beginners are welcome (as well as more advanced musicians). With regards to pedagogy, whether we focus on a jazz, gospel, classical, or popular etc. school of thought is entirely up to you.

I have a simple philosophy which I live out with regards to my approach in the tuition of my students. It is…

“that personal tuition is (in actuality) both therapy and self-determination”

When you are meeting a teacher for one-on-one piano lessons, there is a therapeutic nature in the regularity of the routine... like going to your favourite venue to order the same drink, or completing a well-known exercise routine. Accordingly, I am interested in the pupil’s well-being as a whole person, not solely their artistic or academic pursuits. Therefore, whether acknowledged verbally or not, a healthy teaching dynamic can be of notable value to the well-being of both the teacher and the student by the virtue of its implicitly therapeutic nature.

With regards to self-determination, an aspect of my teaching which I greatly encourage is that the pupil takes an active role in choosing their own repertoire. Because… What do you want to achieve from your lesson if not to play your repertoire of choice? This is not to say that I will not be happy to influence to your own listening (should you be open to suggestions), but simply to acknowledge that with the sheer volume of music of there in the world; overall, you are better focusing on that which interests you.
